TIPS FOR WEDDING PLANNING
The following are estimated figures only for events of the wedding day
- Decide what size wedding you want; type out a quick guest list (names only)
- Grand (150+)
- Standard (50-150)
- Small (up to 50)
2. Think about the type of wedding you want and where
- Church wedding: many options
- Outdoor wedding: maybe at a park or beach
- Backyard intimate wedding: it’s free and lovely in your backyard or maybe a relative’s property with a pond
- Venue: A full weekend, a full day or try booking hourly for quite a cost savings. See what is included with your reservation (many options, must plan WAY ahead)
3. What kind of budget can you afford? (This will affect you decision on #1) Keep in mind, this is everything: Rentals, Wedding Coordinator, Florist, Photographer, Minister, bridesmaids and groomsmen attire (optional-they might be able to pay for their own costs to be in your wedding), hotels for family or friends traveling ,(optional…they can pay for their own boarding cost), caterers, servers, bartender/s, housekeeping, alcohol (optional…guests can pay for their own drinks), wedding cake, etc
- GRAND WEDDING $50,000+
- STANDARD (all catered wedding) $25,000-$50,000
- STANDARD SIMPLE, A nice wedding, simple catered or pitch-in, cake, punch, etc…$10,000 -$25,000
- SMALL WEDDING: Local and usually basic wedding needs: photographer, minister, more emphasis on flowers and photography areas, cake, the wedding party pays for their own attire and possibly for their own flowers $2.000-$10,000
4. Who pays for the wedding and reception? Several options:
- The Bride’s parents or both sets of parents decide to pay for the entire wedding including reception. Traditionally the Bride’s parents pay for the wedding and the groom's parents pay for a rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding. This can be at the wedding location or at a local restaurant usually after rehearsal
- The bride and groom pay for the entire wedding including reception
- Both sets of parents are paying for part of the wedding and reception
And the bride and groom are paying for part of the wedding and reception
5. Options for a couple to pay for their own wedding
- Set a wedding date for at least a year in advance or a few years ahead. Open a savings account specifically for your wedding funds. How about a separate checking account? Pay for all of your big day purchases with the convenience of using your debit cards or checks. Next, set your target amount of money and work together to reach it. This will allow you to get to your target amount sooner and bring you closer as a couple with accomplishing such a big goal
- Taking on a second or third job, for example, try some odd jobs: mowing lawns and pulling weeds, snow removal, cleaning houses, etc…will also help you save quickly
- Optimizing credit cards, using your points for your wedding purchases (great choice) or taking out a new card specifically for the wedding. Keep in mind, you could be paying interest for possibly years to come, depending on how much you put on it
- Take a loan out for the wedding. There again, you could be paying interest for possibly years. A word of caution, inflation and the cost of borrowing money are both on the rise! Not the best of options
I hope you find this information helpful and if there is anything else I can help you with please let me know. I’m here for you, God bless you both!
